The
South End of Boston was listed on the National Register of Historic
Places in 1973 as the largest urban Victorian neighborhood in the
country, representing over 300 acres of land which was filled along
the necklands and developed during the mid-nineteenth century. Substantially
intact, the South End was designated a landmark district in 1983.
Today,
the South End is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Boston
and one of the most progressive in the nation. In the South End
you will find some of the finest restaurants in the country as well
as outdoor cafes, red brick sidewalks, tree lined streets, ecclectic
shops, and cutting edge art galleries.
