This painting was inspired from a patch of flowering weeds, grasses, and wild trees I found growing along the fences by the Mass Pike, near the Washington Street bridge.

Surrounded by asphalt, concrete, and traffic; this vibrant, beautiful, and peaceful scene was so green and thriving. When viewed close up, it is in such stark contrast to its surroundings that it seems to be part of a completely separate world. This is the essence of urban wilds, and demonstrates how nature is always around us, and always finds a way to survive.

This painting is currently on display in Boston's Downtown Crossing (across from The Opera House & Modern Theater) as part of Boston Art Windows.

This painting of a forest's edge beneath a sweeping sky is not of any place in particular, but the overall inspiration came from watching the giant skies that command over the Beech forests in Provincetown, MA in the late Fall.

This painting of leaves scattered on the forest floor was inspired from a hike I took deep in the woods near Rochester, Vermont.

This painting was inpsired from seeing dozens of dandelions along the side of the road near near the banks of the Charles River in the Allston neighborhood of Boston. I loved the way the stems intertwined and how some of the seed pods withstood the wind that day, maintaining their perfect spherical shape, while others lost most of their seeds to the wind.

This painting of Clovers and Timothy Grass against a blue sky was inspired from a patch of weeds that broke through the asphalt in an abandoned parking lot just across from my studio on Mass Ave in Boston. The perspective could be that of an insect staring up from this miniature "urban forest" where the noise, chaos, and grit of the city are lost and give way to the peace and tranquility of the natural world, that has found a way to survive against the odds in such an inhospitable environment. These "Urban Wilds" greatly inspire me and provide escape from a world dominated by asphalt and concrete.
